Central Jakarta has 150 Urban Farming Spots

Central Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-department intensifies urban farming program in the region. Currently, Central Jakarta has 150 spots to develop urban farming.

We hope there will be more urban farmers in Central Jakarta

Central Jakarta KPKP Sub-department's Agriculture Section Head, Sunarto stated, urban farming not only utilizes narrow land in urban areas, but also helps in maintaining food security and food price stability in the capital.

"Alhamdulillah, after socializing, educating, and assisting residents about urban farming since 2016, now we have 150 spots of urban farming in 8 sub-districts," he explained, Saturday (11/2).

In January-October 2019 period, his side added 35 spots for urban farmings in Central Jakarta.

In detail, 9 spots are located in Cempaka Putih Sub-district, 5 spots in Sawah Besar, 5 spots in Gambir, 6 spots in Menteng, 2 spots in Kemayoran, 2 spots in Johar Baru, and 4 spots in Tanah Abang.

"There are 2 additional spots in Senen located on Jalan Kramat Kwitang 1C and Jalan Kwitang," he added.

He stated, Central Jakarta KPKP Sub-department will continue to coach the urban farmers, including to provide planting media and various types of plants, as well as the fertilizer needed.

"We hope there will be more urban farmers in Central Jakarta. Thus urban farming can be more developed and more people can use their limited land for urban farming," he stated.
